Today, the making of quality felt hats is still a very labour intensive process. With some 45 operations involved, many done by hand, the skills of the hatmakers have to be developed over many years or specializing in one operation. Changing fashions and availability of certain materials have inspired an increase in the range of hats produced by Christy's.
